Test of Belief is the sample illustration for chapter two of my book. The general gist of this scene is that the children are all participating in a test where the object is to walk across the top of the water -from one side of the shallow test pool to the other. Egan (the main character, boy in the middle) is successful at this until, through the water, he sees a vision of his own “death.”
